You know what they say about loose lips: they start rumors that take the Internet by storm, causing fans to fulminate against the creators of their favorite shows despite having absolutely zero hard facts to go on. A hint of exactly this sort incited a flood of speculation when Jared Harris implied in an interview that, after her character Peggy Olson left Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, Elisabeth Moss had left Mad Men for good. We were heartened to read a subsequent interview with Moss that suggested she could be back on the show, after all — but still, our minds were not yet at ease. Well, Peggy fans, we can finally relax, because Matthew Weiner has decided to set us straight.
In an entirely uncharacteristic move for the notoriously secretive Mad Men showrunner, Weiner has confirmed in a conversation with TV Line that Peggy will be back for Season 6. “When people leave Sterling Cooper, sometimes it is the end for [the character],” he told Matt Webb Mitovich. “But I will spoil that one tiny piece of anticipation and tell people that Elisabeth will be showing up to work.” Phew. It’s good to know that Weiner finds Peggy Olson as essential to Mad Men as we do — not to mention that there’s now a decent chance we’ll get to see how she spends the Summer of Love.
