Last month at Comic-Con, during a 10-year anniversary panel for Joss Whedon’s space western Firefly, the filmmaker was still unsure if he wanted to tackle a sequel to the third highest grossing film of all time, The Avengers. Slash Film is now reporting that fans of the superhero adaptation can stop wringing their hands, anticipating the director’s next move. During the Walt Disney Investors conference call, it was announced that Joss Whedon will return to write and direct Marvel’s Avengers sequel. News about the blockbuster is exciting enough, but it was also revealed that Whedon is involved in the development of a live-action TV series for ABC that is set inside the Marvel cinematic universe. Everyone breathe.

This is a big commitment for Whedon, and one we won’t see the fruits of for the next several years, but hit up the comments to let us know if you’re ready for a double dose of Thanos (possibly). He’s the baddie that was teased at the end of Avengers and could very well appear in Marvel’s other project Guardians of the Galaxy , slated for a 2014 release.
