Intriguing Photorealistic Paintings on Newspapers

Share:

Keeping up with current events can feel like a necessary evil at times. Yes, we all want to be informed, but reading a newspaper from cover to cover can be a disturbing experience, the kind of thing that makes a person feel totally powerless. Rather than getting frustrated by her inability to affect major change, South Korea-born, New Jersey-based artist Shin-Young An decided to channel her emotions into her work. Using the news stories that have touched her as a canvas, she juxtaposes disturbing real world events with photorealistic depictions of anonymous limbs performing everyday tasks like polishing toe nails and drinking iced coffee. The resulting images are really quite interesting, especially once you spend a little time with them.
