The Entire Cartoon Universe in Just One Illustration

How’s this for an epic undertaking: Characternity, an illustration by New York-based artist (and self-admitted fanboy) Ray Sumser features over 2,500 characters from cartoons, comic books, video games, and pop culture at large. From Daria and Ned Flanders to the Mcburglar and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, it looks as if the gang’s all here. “This project began as a three by six foot line drawing created from a collection of over 2,900 source images that I have culled over the past half decade,” Sumser explains. “This includes suggestions made by Kickstarter backers, strangers at San Diego Comic-Con, friends, family, fans and a committed body of personal research.” Check out a zoomable version of the piece here, and if you’re interested in helping him raise funds to create prints out of the finished drawing — or you’d like to suggest an important character you think he missed — head over to Kickstarter through September 16th to donate.
