Another day, another new TV project for J.J. Abrams. No seriously, it’s getting out of control; the man is everywhere. Just a few weeks ago we told you that he’d sold a futuristic robot cop series to Fox. Now we hear that he’s collaborating with Oscar-nominated filmmaker Alfonso Cuarón (Y Tu Mamá También, Children of Men) on a new drama pilot for NBC that the former will produce and the latter will direct and co-write. According to Deadline, the show follows “a girl in possession of a great gift/powers — which will come into their own in seven years — and the man who is sprung from prison to protect her from those trying to hunt her down.”
Given our feelings on Revolution (and before that Alcatraz and Undercovers), it seems to us like Abrams has been spreading himself too thin, and as a result, keeps regurgitating watered down versions of his previous hits. But Cuarón’s involvement with the project has us thinking that this could finally be the show to break him out of a creative rut — which would be great news for network TV. What do you think?
