Courtney Love and James Iha Collaborate on New Single "This Is War"

What do Courtney Love and James Iha have in common? Well, besides being ’90s alt-rock survivors, both have had long, fraught relationships with Billy Corgan. (They also shared a band mate, Melissa Auf der Maur, but we digress.) So we can’t help but wonder what the Great Pumpkin might say about their collaboration on Love’s new solo single, “This Is War,” for which she enlisted Iha to aid with production.

Love told Rolling Stone about the project, potentially slated for release February 7th, at Elton John’s AIDS Foundation Gala. “I’d put it out right now because it’s a two-minute, 59-second song and it’s sick, slamming, great,” she said. “I think it’ll go Number One in the UK. However, in the United States, who fucking knows? I never thought I’d put out a 130, 135 BPM song. It’s a really fast rock song. I’m telling you, it’s probably the greatest rock song I’ve ever heard.” So, you know, no big deal — just a song that makes “Satisfaction” sound like “Moves Like Jagger.” Manage your expectations accordingly.
