Jeff Mangum to Headline Occupy Wall Street Telethon

Just like the punk movement to which it shares more than a casual connection, Occupy Wall Street isn’t dead — it’s just harder to find these days. But an all-star concert to be held November 15th at Le Poisson Rouge promises a resurgence of the movement in New York’s popular consciousness. The show will feature performances by such vocal OWS supporters as Jeff Mangum, Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio, Janeane Garofalo, Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo, Fugazi guitarist Guy Picciotto, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch mastermind John Cameron Mitchell. Also on the bill are activist pranksters The Yes Men, The Daily Show creator Lizz Winstead, and Get Your War On creator David Rees.

Dubbed “The People’s Bailout: A Variety Show and Telethon to Benefit the 99%,” the event will benefit Strike Debt‘s The Rolling Jubilee, “a campaign that buys debt for pennies on the dollar and does away with it.” For those outside New York, the telethon will stream live at rollingjubilee.org, where supporters will also be able to donate to the cause. Tickets go on sale Friday, November 2nd at 10am at Le Poisson Rouge’s website.
