Lizzy Caplan is a cult-favorite 30-year-old actress known for her dry wit. Fred Willard is a 73-year-old actor, comedian, and Christopher Guest lifer who made headlines a few months ago after his arrest for “engaging in a lewd act” in a porn theater. They make a pretty unlikely pair, but then again, the project that brings them together is also an unlikely one.
It’s OK to Do Stuff is a 40th-anniversary tribute to Marlo Thomas’ era-defining Free to Be… You and Me, the all-star kids album that taught Generation X about feminism. The new version is a loving parody of the original, featuring the voices of everyone from Eugene Mirman to Andy Richter to Samantha Bee. In their skit, “Girl Meets Boy,” Baby Lizzy schools Baby Fred on the intricacies of gender identity. If you’ve ever wanted to hear Caplan talk about “the phallocentric hierarchy of gender construction” — and who hasn’t? — click through and listen to the clip. You can stream the full album here, or pay $5 to download it. All proceeds go to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
