Johnny Depp’s New Compilation Album Is Packed With Dream Collaborations

Patti Smith and Johnny Depp. Tom Waits and Keith Richards. Michael Stipe and Courtney Love. These are just a few of the mind-blowing collaborations that comprise Son of Rogue’s Gallery: Pirate Ballads, Sea Songs and Chanteys, a sequel to the original 2006 Rogue’s Gallery covers compilation that Depp, Gore Verbinski, and Hal Willner put together while working on Pirates of the Carribbean: Dead Man’s Chest. Other inspired team-ups include pairings of legends with lesser-known artists, such as Nick Cave and Warren Ellis with the wonderful Shilpa Ray, as well as Iggy Pop backed by A Hawk and a Hacksaw. Kembra Phaler’s track features the unlikely union of Antony, Joseph Arthur, and J.G. Thirlwell’s Foetus. The rest of the double-disc collection encompasses a delightful range of artists, from Michael Gira to Angelica Huston to Shane MacGowan to Katey Red and Big Freedia. Whoa. Check out the full tracklist for the album, due out February 19th via Anti-, at Pitchfork.
