‘Nudiemojis’: Playfully Pointed Emoticons Drawn on Women’s Bodies [NSFW]

Christine Cha, the Brooklyn-based artist responsible for the series Body Maps that we shared earlier this week, explores the artistic trope of the female nude. In another collection that she calls Nudiemojis, which will also go on display beginning tonight at Greenpoint Gallery in Brooklyn (along with Body Maps), Cha takes a more playful look at the female form, connecting it to the ever-growing popularity of emojis and emoticons. “They are cutouts of Playboy nudes, so very curvy and sexual in their poses,” Cha says. “However, with the cartoon face, a common American male name, and subtracting the rest of the original body, these turn into little rather pathetic characters dealing with not-so-important problems. Again, bringing the female nude and the subject of femininity into play without making it ‘about feminism.'” Check out the collection after the jump.
