The Cover of Lady Gaga’s New Single “Applause” Looks a Whole Lot Like David Bowie’s ‘Scary Monsters’

Scary little monsters, eh? Like her spirit animal Madonna, Lady Gaga has never been shy about lifting the aesthetics of artists she admires, and by the look of the cover art for her new single “Applause,” this time around she’s been taking, um, inspiration from early-’80s-era David Bowie. She unveiled the artwork via Twitter earlier this week, and its image, script, and general aesthetic bear a striking resemblance to the cover of Scary Monsters and Super Creeps, something that hasn’t escaped the notice of the occasional commentator. We look forward to a video featuring La Gaga being menaced by an excavating machine in due course.
