Meg Remy’s U.S. Girls project is a constant favorite on the Flavorwire stereo, so we’re delighted to premiere the video for “Overtime,” which is taken from Remy’s new EP, Free Advice Column. The song is many kinds of awesome, deconstructing the sound of ’50s bubblegum pop and reassembling it into a fractured, postmodern pop song. The video, directed by Remy herself, follows dance artist Andrea Nann as she moves through a series of interpretive dances. The performances seem to relate to the song in a rather oblique manner, and while the dances are beautiful, something about their settings — a sunlight cemetery and a gritty metalworks — make them as disconcerting as they are intriguing.
