Stark, Revealing Infrared Portraits of Male Dancers

We’ve featured the work of Israeli photographer Nir Arieli here on Flavorwire before — he’s a former military photographer, and his pictures explores the humanity and vulnerability that can be masked by ones physical identity. Back in July we looked at Tension, his collection of beautiful portraits of dancers in motion, and his Inframen series explores similar territory. Again, it takes male dancers as its subjects, but this time Arieli photographs his models at rest, using infrared film. The result is a set of stark black-and-white portraits that, in the photographer’s words, “reveals details that are under the subject’s abused skin… I am taking the dancers out of their roles as performers and revealing personal intimate individuals.” The results are unusual and beautiful.
