Spend enough time in Brooklyn’s Dyker Heights neighborhood or tune in to too many second-tier cable specials about people obsessed with constructing elaborate Christmas light displays, and you might come to the conclusion that there’s a distinctly dark side to America’s holiday home decor arms race. Finnish photographer Markus Henttonen conveys precisely that creepiness in Silent Night, an ominously lit photo series of decked-out houses around Los Angeles that raises questions about what these spectacles conceal and reveal.
