Thought-Provoking Portraits Explore Immigrants’ Conflicted Identities

Immigration is a hot-button topic across the globe, but so rarely is the subject approached from the point of view of those who have left one place for another. Spanish artist Oscar Parasiego tried to tackle this himself following his move to England. His series, Diaspora (spotted via Feature Shoot), includes portraits of immigrants who are in transition from one place to another. As he writes on his website, “Reasons for migration are diverse but this does not change the period of adjustment… The protagonists of my pictures merge into their new houses, new neighbourhoods, new countries, in the same way as I find my place portraying them without showing them, showing just their camouflage, their inner fight for seeing themselves reflected in their new lives.” Check out images from Diaspora after the jump.
