Paula Wagner to Bring Run-DMC’s Story to the Stage

Variety is reporting that Paula Wagner, producer of Tom Cruise flicks The Last Samurai and Vanilla Sky, is in talks with Run-DMC to produce an original musical based on their story. The two remaining members of Run-DMC, Joseph “Reverend Run” Simmons and Daryl “DMC” McDaniels will chat with Paula this week in New York. More after the jump.

About the possible collaboration, Paula says:

“I feel their story lends itself perfectly to the stage. This project has been a passion of mine for some time and I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with them.”

Reverend Run and DMC, as well as their late partner, DJ “Jam-Master” Jay Mizell, came from humble beginnings in Hollis, Queens to achieve mainstream success. It seems appropriate that they would be featured in a musical as their hip-hop and rock fusion in the mid-eighties pioneered such bands as Rage Against the Machine, Korn, and System of the Down. Just look at how well the American Idiot musical is doing for Green Day. Or Rock of Ages for ’80s hairbands.

No word yet, on whether Steven Tyler will have a cameo.
