Warm weather opens up a whole world of possibilities for visual artists — namely, the great outdoors. And while winter is coming for New Zealand, Kiwi artist Jamie Harkins and collaborators Lucia Lupf, David Rendu, and Constanza Nightingale have provided plenty of inspiration for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere as our summer approaches. Working on gorgeous beaches, they’ve created some incredible 3D optical illusions by drawing on sand, from Escher-esque stairs to skate ramps that look real enough to use. Click through for a few highlights from Harkins et al’s projects (spotted via Junkculture), and follow the group on Facebook to track their work.
