President Obama may not have offered to share a beer with them, but it sounds like Taylor Swift and Kanye West are working out their differences on their own. The LA Times’ Elizabeth Snead just posted a rumor circulating courtesy of Perez that Kanye will cameo on an upcoming November episode of Saturday Night Live hosted by the teen country sensation. True? Who knows. But a larger question looms: If it happens, will they do a duet?
Assuming a musical pairing does happen, we probably won’t be able to expect more than some half-baked mash up of two of their hits. At best, we’ll probably hear Taylor sing backup on a Kanye single. If we had our way, though, there would be some clear front-runners when it comes to songs these two could dole out to a live studio audience.
How about a cover of Queen’s “Best Friends”? Or a rendition of America’s favorite song about racial harmony “Ebony and Ivory”? “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart”? “Opposites Attract”? Someone here in the office even suggested a rousing rendition of “Hakuna Matata.” Really, the possibilities are endless.
In the meantime, catch another look at the moment that brought these two unlikely musical acts into the center ring and imagine a day when Kanye will no longer judge Taylor Swift by the award she stole from Beyonce, but by the content of her character.
