Your Weekly TV News Roundup: ‘Orphan Black’ Renewed, Syfy Orders ‘The Magicians’ Pilot

The television world moves so fast that by the time you learn of a show’s premiere, it could already be canceled. This week, a few great books are getting TV adaptations, Sean Hayes will return to primetime (again), and Taye Diggs joins The Good Wife.

BBC America renewed Orphan Black for a third season (slightly softening the blow of Tatiana Maslany being overlooked for an Emmy) that will consist of ten episodes and air this fall. Broadchurch also got a renewal. [Variety]

Syfy has ordered a pilot for an adaptation of Lev Grossman’s fantasy novel The Magicians. In The Magicians, which is the first in a trilogy, a group of New York City 20-somethings discover a world of magic. The pilot is being written by John McNamara (Prime Suspect) and Sera Gamble (Supernatural). [Deadline]

Gillian Flynn’s first novel, Sharp Objects, is also getting a TV adaptation, with Marti Noxon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as showrunner. [THR]

One more book-to-series adaptation: Ron Howard and Brian Grazer will bring the young adult prehistoric book series The Clan of the Cave Bear to Lifetime. The networked ordered a pilot that will be written by Linda Woolverton (Maleficent). [Variety]

Marin Ireland has joined Masters of Sex, and Sam Waterston has joined Netflix’s upcoming comedy Grace and Frankie. [Deadline]

Glee‘s final season will only have 13 episodes. [THR]
