Last week, CMJ Music Marathon took over Manhattan (below 14th Street, at least) and Brooklyn for showcase upon showcase. As usual, some of the best parties — like the three-day Fader Fort at Converse Rubber Tracks and Brooklyn Vegan’s day parties — were unofficial and free to the public. But even if you couldn’t get in, there was plenty of go around if you knew where to look. Our photographer, Leila Morrissey, did.
She shot The Kills’ big return at Webster Hall, rising star (and Flavorwire favorite) Courtney Barnett (also at Webster), Willow Smith *not* whipping her hair back and forth at the Fader Fort (plus Cam’ron’s surprise performance), the Austin Psych Fest showcase at Rough Trade on Saturday, and much more.
