According to E! News, Kelly Rowland will feature in season two of Empire, playing the mother of Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) in flashbacks. It’s not known how exactly big of a role this will be, but Rowland’s inclusion as the mother character suggests that the story will focus more on the younger days of Lyon, and his teenage drug dealing days in Philadelphia.
This exciting news comes after a slew of other announcements about cameo appearances in the next season: Chris Rock, Lenny Kravitz, Adam Rodriguez and Marisa Tomei are also slated to appear on the hit show.
Outside of Empire, Rowland left Republic Records last summer, stating she needed “a fresh, new start,” and has reportedly been working on new material since then. Her last musical release was 2013’s Talk a Good Game, although she also featured on tracks by Michelle Williams and Joe last year.
