EW reports that Harry Shearer, the voice of power plant owner and Springfield’s resident Rich Dude Mr. Burns (and confirmed bachelor Smithers, and left-handed Christian widower Ned Flanders), is officially returning for The Simpsons’ 27th and 28th seasons. Shearer had previously claimed he was leaving the show in order to have more time for other projects, though many believed that his reasons were related to compensation rather than scheduling. Seven weeks after the initial announcement, however, Shearer has signed the same contract as his primary co-stars, guaranteeing his participation in the animated series’ next two installments—and potentially its 29th and 30th seasons, should Fox decide to renew. Exxxxxcellent.
