Élodie Yung Cast as Elektra for ‘Daredevil’s’ Second Season

Marvel’s ninja-assassin Elektra is coming to Season 2 of Netflix’s Daredevil, and has finally been cast. French actress Élodie Yung will play the character who reenters and shakes up Matt Murdock’s life, whose name is derived from the mythological princess of Argos (her brother’s name, amusingly, is Orestez), and who, like the Greek princess, attended Columbia University before leaving to study martial arts in China. The role was formerly played by Jennifer Garner in 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra. In a statement, the Executive Producer and Head of Marvel Television said:

After a worldwide search, we found in Elodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity. Paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.

It’s perhaps helpful that Yung herself is quite experienced in karate. Her filmography isn’t the most extensive, but you may recognize her from her appearances in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo or G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

The second season of Daredevil is set to premiere in 2016.
