Watch the First Clip from the Victorian England-Set ‘Sherlock’ Christmas Special

Last night at San Diego Comic-Con, the first clip from the upcoming Sherlock Christmas Special was unveiled, and according to executive co-producer Steven Moffat, “the very next thing to happen to Sherlock and John, is the very last thing you’d expect…”

Three episodes will follow the unprecedented special, which marks the return of Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as John Watson (their return in the special, however, happens to have a new (old) setting — Victorian England). The first 1.5 minute look — which you can watch below — finds “Mr. Holmes” dismounting a carriage and puffing from a pipe as he enters his famous dwelling, 221B.

After the special — which, apart from its usual run on BBC/PBS will also screen in select theaters in the U.S. — the fourth season of the show will return to current day and will air sometime in 2016 (which sadly, will likely result in the loss of Watson’s Christmas Special mustache).
