Following the release of eight atmospheric but wholly uninformative teaser trailers (one of which was just footage of a waffle lying in the snow) for Fargo‘s second season earlier today, FX has posted the full trailer on Youtube.
After initial announcements about the season, a number of members of the new cast surely stirred giddiness among various fan bases, notably Nick Offerman as Karl Weathers (among fans of Parks and Recreation and soothing masculinity), Patrick Wilson as a younger version of Season 1 character Lou Solverson (among fans of Little Children, generally stupendous acting and chiseled features) and Kirsten Dunst (especially among fans of Drop Dead Gorgeous, who, with this new trailer, will be thrilled to see her reassuming her Amber Atkins accent). And this first real look at the season gives a pretty clear portrait of each of the actors’ characters, as well as some key plot points.
The season takes place in 1979 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Luverne, Minnesota, and sees Wilson’s character investigating a local gang and a mob syndicate, aided by his father (Ted Danson). Through his investigation, he encounters Offerman’s character (a Korean War vet who, as per the official synopsis, is “a flowery drunk blessed with the gift of gab and the eloquence of a true con artist”), a mob boss played by Everybody Loves Raymond‘s Brad Garrett, a Fargo “crime family” led by their matriarch, Floyd (Jean Smart), and a beautician and her butcher’s assistant husband (Dunst and Jesse Plemons) who are “pulled into a gangland war.”
