Ah, the wonders and woes of the teaser trailer. As with most, the just-released teaser for Empire‘s second season excites, even with proof of little besides the fact that all involved members still have faces. In the 15 seconds of new footage the trailer provides, you’ll see Taraji P. Henson’s face, Jussie Smollet’s face, Bryshere Y. Gray’s face, Terrence Howard’s face (and some others!), some of which have new haircuts!
The scant clues about the season show that Jamal and Cookie are running things in Lucious’ absence, and Jamal is rallying to get his father out of jail with a huge “Free Lucious” banner adorning his concert set. And, weirdly, Cookie and her arch-nemesis Anika (whose competition came to a violent head at the end of season 1) are seen walking (cordially?) alongside one another, looking resolvedly professional.
