Elisabeth Moss Will Return to ‘Top of the Lake’ for Its Sydney-Set Second Season

It was known that Jane Campion’s eerie New Zealand-set crime drama Top of the Lake would eventually be coming back for another season. But not much else was certain, until today.

According to IF, Elisabeth Moss will be returning to Campion’s series and reprising the role of Detective Robin Griffin — who in the first season returns to her small hometown, Laketop, from Sydney, and gets embroiled in a local investigation involving the pregnancy, attempted suicide and ultimate disappearance of a local 12-year-old.

The plot of the next season allegedly follows Griffin as she investigates a new case in Sydney (so long, breathtaking aerial shots of mountains and that particular lake, the titular top of which was vaguely sinister). Campion and Gerard Lee (who also co-wrote the first season) are penning the second, and Campion will be directing some of the episodes, with pre-production starting in December.

The second season was commissioned by BBC2, and is being produced by See-Saw Films.
