Tom Cruise embarked on a new mission last night, which proved to be not at all impossible. He joined, and obliterated, Jimmy Fallon in a lip-sync battle on The Tonight Show. The Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation star kicked off the competition with The Weeknd’s “I Can’t Feel My Face,” and then Meat Loaf’s “Paradise By The Dashboard Light,” a rendition he dedicated to all the “Jersey girls on these hot summer nights.”
Through his visceral performance, Cruise’s initial “this is ridiculous” attitude quickly melts away. Once he sheds any sense of self-consciousness, he entertains the audience with a throwback of sorts to his original lip-sync living room dance to Bob Seger’s “Old Time Rock and Roll” in 1983’s Risky Business — until he realizes that it “wouldn’t be fair” to Fallon to use that against him.
The battle ends with the duo passionately serenading an audience member with “You’ve Lost That Loving Feeling,” as Cruise once famously did in 1986’s Top Gun.
Cruise’s next blockbuster sequel, Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, is out this Friday. In the meantime, watch a less violent Cruise below:
