Watch Kendrick Lamar’s Surreal New Video for the Politically-Charged “For Free?”

“Oh America, you bad bitch / I picked cotton that made you rich / Now my dick ain’t free,” spits Kendrick Lamar in the new video for “For Free? (Interlude)” from the artist’s acclaimed album To Pimp a Butterfly. It’s a jazzy, fast and furious delivery from the Compton-born Lamar in the Joe Weil and the Little Homies-directed short as he pursues a woman — who demands money from the rapper — around a lush estate, confronting her with “this dick ain’t free” inside a mansion. Images of racial stereotypes abound (and an Uncle Sam-clad Lamar), before the whole thing turns into a haunted house, and we’re finally greeted with a group of “Kendrick Lamars” at the video’s end. It’s a powerful accompaniment to the artist’s videos for “King Kunta” and “Alright,” both with their own complex metaphors and lyrical prowess.
