Video Game-Esque Renderings of Everyday Japanese Life

If like me you’ve never been to Japan, it’s easy to see the place through the lens of innumerable JRPGs and other artefacts of digital culture. As such, there’s something sort of pleasantly familiar about the work of an artist who goes by the name of 1041uuu — his/her work consists of images of everyday Japanese life, rendered in the pixelated style of early to mid ’90s games. You almost expect to be able to walk these characters around the screen with the arrow keys, pausing to “SIT DOWN” or “PET CAT” or “GET FOOD.”
