Meet the winners of our Open for Mew contest: Brooklyn-based psych-pop quartet Bear In Heaven won our hearts with their gorgeous melodies and spacious tales of teenage martyrs. If you live in New York, check them out when they open for Mew at Webster Hall this Friday night.
Bear In Heaven seem to have hit their stride lately: their sophomore release, Beast Rest Forth Mouth, dropped in October, snagging a coveted Best New Music nod from Pitchfork. Not that we’re surprised. Bear In Heaven’s music is marvelous: warm, expansive, and rich in texture, it sounds like we just opened the door to a secret wonderland — and we’re ready to get lost inside.
Watch a “Takeaway Show” from Le Blogotheque featuring the band, and listen to two more of our favorite tracks below. For more, see what fellow ursine band Grizzly Bear had to say about BIH, follow the band on Twitter, buy the album, check out their blog, or see them live with Mew (if you’re in NYC).
