Haim will become the next big name to host their own show on Apple’s Beats 1 radio station. The station is part of the new music streaming service, Apple Music, which was launched in June. The Haim sisters will join an impressive array of hosts, including Josh Homme, Pharrell, and Dr. Dre. The station is managed by former BBC DJ Zane Lowe.
Haim aptly made the announcement as guests on Pharrell’s Beats 1 show OTHERtone? They told the story of meeting Pharrell in a mall with their parents in 2004 — he’d told them to send him a demo, they’d gotten his phone number, and then lost it. Two days later they saw him again, but rather than approach him, they jumped into a nearby bush. Really: “We didn’t want to be creepy stalkers, we didn’t say ‘Hi’, we hid in a bush,” said drummer Alana Haim.
The band played some of their favorite songs, including a few surprises (Este Haim, for example, declared that 2001’s Son of a Gun, by Janet Jackson and Carly Simon, is her favorite bass line of all time.)
There’s no word yet on when the Haim’s first Beats 1 show will air. For now, you can listen to them on the OTHERtone?
