It’s easy to get excited by the all-too-rare idea of a woman hosting a late night talk show — but Samantha Bee also wants to emphasize that her upcoming TBS program and her talents shouldn’t be reduced to or overshadowed by this one buzzed-about fact. Rather, in a new promotional video for the show, she asks people not to watch for the mere fact that she’s a “woman in a male dominated field,” but rather for her “nuanced perspective on world events, [her] repartee with newsmakers from across the ideological spectrum.”
It turns out that just last night, before this promo dropped, the show’s title was revealed: it’s Full Frontal with Samantha Bee. Fittingly, her statement about nuance is undermined when she proceeds to pull out, from beneath her dress, a 10 pound pair of lady balls, straightforwardly adding that people should also watch for her “10 pound lady balls.”
TBS executive vice president of original programming said in a statement — back when the show was first announced — that the network is thrilled to house “her straight-faced sarcasm,…ruthless wit… [and] her uncanny ability to mine comedy gold from just about any awkward situation.” And clearly she’s already done that with the awkward situation of dealing with the weight of media-hyped expectations for her as a “female voice.” Watch the video:
