Deadline reports that the Daredevil cast has a new series regular. Stephen Rider (Lee Daniels’ The Butler, Shameless) will be playing District Attorney Blake Tower, who’s an ally of Daredevil’s, and helps him locate the whereabouts of criminals.
Blake Tower has been seen in several stories across the Marvel universe — he also worked alongside Captain America. In Daredevil comics, he’s known for having helped with the defeat of Mind-Wave, the criminal with a mind-altering helmet — but who knows if that’ll have anything to do with his plot line on the show.
It is — to an extent — noteworthy that they’ve cast Rider as a character depicted in the books as a blond white man. With diversity being a continuing issue within both the Marvel and DC comics universes (and one that Marvel claims to be making efforts to amend), it’s always momentarily reassuring to see the cinematic and TV adaptations of comics not adhering too stringently (as they’ve been known to do in the past) to the whiteness of older comic stories, rooted as they are in mid-20th century storytelling.
Daredevil‘s second season will premiere on Netflix in 2016.
