Drake and Future released their new mixtape, What a Time to be Alive, on Sunday night. That’s right: While you were busy watching the Emmys, Drake played the new album from front to back on his radio show OVO Sound Show, on Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio channel.
“It’s a little soundtrack for people that need it right now,” Drake told Rolling Stone .
Drake and Future reportedly recorded the 11-track mixtape over six days. Drake was visiting Future in Atlanta to discuss working together and it just kind of…. happened.
“I went to Atlanta for six days a couple weeks ago with the hopes of doing some songs with Future,” Drake said, “and when you get around Future, it’s like a vortex, that guy can outwork anybody right now […] It’s tough to see someone do four, five songs in one night and not try to match it.”
Also, before you ask: Yes, the title apparently is a reference to that meme-inspiring Simpsons clip:
Before it dropped, Drake teased album by posting the cover art, a stock photo of diamonds, on Instagram:
On Sunday, he also posted the album track list:
What a Time to be Alive is available now through Apple Music or as a $9.99 download from iTunes, and will hit non-Apple retailers and services next week.
