With Netflix’s first feature, Beasts of No Nation, set for release on October 16, Amazon now seems eager to keep up with Netflix’s highly anticipated original filmmaking ventures (though hopefully they won’t also be funding four new Adam Sandler films any time soon). Deadline reports that they’re currently in the midst of finalizing negotiations for one of their features — which happens to have Kristen Wiig attached to it as a star.
The film-to-be is called Desired Moments, and was scripted by Griffin Creech, with The Onion Movie director Tom Kuntz set to helm the project. It follows a midwestern man (who has yet to be cast), who begins to fixate on a website that purportedly grants wishes. Deadline’s description likens it to Spike Jonze, Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry films for its “magical realism.” It’s presumed that, if the film gets made, it’ll get both a streaming and theatrical release.
