There’s a ‘Serial’ TV Show on the Way, But Not the One You Think

Serial, the podcast that started a movement, is officially going to be made into a TV show.Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the writing-directing duo behind 21 Jump Street, The Lego Movie, Last Man on Earth and an upcoming Han Solo spin-off film, have optioned the rights to make a series based on the podcast, according to The Hollywood Reporter . Serial creator Sarah Koenig and her team reportedly “sparked to” the concept… presumably meaning they liked it.

Interestingly enough, that concept will apparently not be the mystery of whether or not Adnan Syed murdered Hae Min Lee in 1999. Though the show is still in the earliest stages of development, the report suggests that the show will chronicle the creation of the podcast, rather than the story it told.

Lord and Miller’s next step will be to find a screenwriter, followed by a distributor for the series. Meanwhile, Koenig and company are working on Serial‘s second and third seasons.
