In today’s edition of what films and TV shows are execs resurrecting from the ‘80s, Deadline reports that Fox has ordered a pilot for a Lethal Weapon reboot — the buddy-cop comedy from ’87, starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as odd-couple LAPD detectives. Matt Miller, former Chuck producer and Forever showrunner, will write the series. “On the Lethal Weapon show, when Texas cop and former Navy SEAL Martin Riggs moves to Los Angeles to start anew after the loss of his wife and baby. There, he gets partnered with LAPD Detective Roger Murtaugh, who, having recently suffered a ‘minor’ heart attack, must avoid any stress in his life,” says Deadline. Insert one “I’m getting too old for this sh*t” quote to seal the deal.

A reboot of the ‘80s action series MacGyver is currently being developed by CBS. Saw director James Wan is one of the minds behind the project, so we can expect this version of secret agent Angus MacGyver to be extra crafty with his Swiss Army knife. Happy Days’ Henry Winkler, the original MacGyver executive producer, joins him along with NCIS: LA executive producer R. Scott Gemmill. Deadline reports that the series would feature “a 10-years younger protagonist. Twentysomething Angus MacGyver gets recruited into the clandestine organization from the original series where he uses his knack for solving problems in unconventional ways to help prevent disasters from happening. The CBS series also is expected to chronicle how MacGyver acquired some of his famous skill sets.” Be on the lookout for a nemesis named Jigsaw.
