Joseph Castelo explores the world of privilege, “affluenza,” and drugs in his new film, The Preppie Connection. Earlier, Vanity Fair featured a clip from the film, which will premiere at the Hamptons International Film Festival on October 10, 2015 (with a larger distribution TBD).
Inspired by the 1984 scandal at Choate Rosemary Hall School, the film stars Thomas Mann (fresh from his breakthrough role in Me and Earl and the Dying Girl) as Tobias Hemmel, a humble working class kid who manages to matriculate into the prestigious (ficitious) Sage Hall preparatory school. Eager to befriend the rich kids, he scores them cocaine, and they embark on a bender.
