Jay Leno Returns to ‘The Tonight Show’ — For a Few Minutes

Jay Leno returned to guest monologue on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night.Leno — you may or may not recall — passed the the show on to Jimmy Fallon eons ago in February, 2014. He’d hosted the show for more than 30 years (with a few breaks).

Leno was in excellent form yesterday, delivering rapid commentary on current presidential campaigns. For example, he said of Democratic presidential candidate Martin O’Malley:

He’s two percent in the polls; two percent! He’s been in the race for eight months and he’s only tied with low-fat milk. That’s not good.

Eventually, Leno started rattling off one-liners about the economy, saying, for instance, “In Beverly Hills I saw a man panhandling in front of Starbucks, just to pay for his Starbucks.” At the segment’s conclusion, Fallon jumped back in and riffed a little bit himself — though it was hard to follow Leno’s solid return.
