Sony hasn’t announced a release date for Don Cheadle’s Miles Ahead , the actor’s crowdfunded directing debut, but we finally have a teaser for the biopic about jazz legend Miles Davis. The name comes from Davis’ acclaimed 1957 album, his first collaboration with arranger Gil Evans. Cheadle also stars in the film as Davis — and judging from this clip, the actor nailed Davis’ husky voice and mannerisms. Miles Ahead is set in 1979 New York City, after Davis’ five-year absence from the spotlight. He teamed up with a Rolling Stone reporter, played by Ewan McGregor, to revive his career. Star Emayatzy Corinealdi plays Frances Taylor, Davis’ wife who has been frank about the musician’s abusive treatment of her during their tumultuous relationship. “There’s got to be full treatment of his genius, as well as his shortcomings,” she said in 2006 of another proposed Davis adaptation Miles and Me. Cheadle’s Miles Ahead will close the New York Film Festival on Sunday.
