Bollywood megastar plus action-packed plot equals solid enough ratings to merit the second full season order of the fall 2015 season, apparently.
Variety reports that Quantico, the ABC drama starring Priyanka Chopra as an FBI recruit turned terrorism suspect, will officially survive through the spring, and presumably at least a season or two thereafter. Airing on Sunday nights, the series has attracted an average of 7 million same-day viewers for each of its three broadcasts to date.
Following NBC’s Blindspot, Quantico is just the second new show of the fall to merit a full season, though most freshman series are just a few weeks old (and some latecomers, like the CW’s Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, have only just premiered). The order’s a testament to both the difficulty networks have had in establishing new properties in a season that’s met with particularly harsh reviews and the strong start Quantico has enjoyed—possibly because it’s another ABC drama, like Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder, fronted by a woman of color. Hopefully ABC will take the hint and stick with its current programming strategy.
