Atlanta, the half-hour series from actor/comedian/rapper Donald Glover, has received a 10-episode order from FX, the network announced this afternoon.
Co-executive produced Paul Simms (creator of NBC’s NewsRadio and alumnus of The Larry Sanders Show) and Dianne McGunigle, Atlanta “ revolves around two cousins on their way up through the Atlanta rap scene,” combining Glover’s backgrounds in television and music. Glover will co-star as Earnest “Earn” Marks; Brian Tyree Henry, Lakeith Lee Stanfield, and Zazie Beetz round out the core cast.
Atlanta, which is also produced by FX’s in-house studio FX Productions, will premiere sometime in 2016. Interestingly, the announcement does not specify whether the show will be a comedy or a drama, making Atlanta a potential departure from Glover’s previous television works on sitcoms like 30 Rock and Community.
