David Beckham has been crowned “sexiest man alive” in 2015 by People Magazine, the preeminent expert on the subject.
In an online preview of the article, People describes Beckham “humble British heartthrob” and “a global superstar, devoted husband and down-to-earth dad of four.” The title seems to fit, though, as Beckham told People he doesn’t think of himself as a sexy person.
“I mean I like to wear nice clothes and nice suits and look and feel good, but I don’t ever think of myself that way,” Beckham said.
The magazine announced their decision ahead of the Beckham cover story on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night. Rather than having the retired soccer star come on the show, Kimmel audience played a 20 questions-style guessing game with a masked Beckham to figure out his identity.
“This is the best moment of my career,” Beckham told Kimmel after they revealed the news. “I can’t believe it.”
