Chvrches aren’t exactly goth and they’re definitely not teens from Florida, but their Every Open Eye single “Empty Threat” pairs surprisingly well with both.
The video for the track, directed by Austin Peters (he’s also directed clips for Rae Sremmurd and Haim), lays out a scene to anyone who’s ever been a dirtbag suburban teenager: a group of friends hits up the local liquor store, takes a road trip, and frolics in a water park. These particular teenagers also happen to be goths, with the makeup and parasols to prove it.
It’s probably not inspired by the synth-happy Scottish trio’s personal experience, but that doesn’t make the video any less evocative for those of us who hail from the American sprawl. Watch the full clip below:
