Jane Got a Gun, the Western produced by and starring Academy-Award winning Natalie Portman as the titular Jane and Ewan McGregor as her antagonist, is finally hitting the big screen next year after many delays.
As /Film notes, production on the film was riddled with problems; after the original director, We Need To Talk About Kevin’s Lynne Ramsay suddenly left the project, a host of changes soon followed, including Jude Law leaving the film and a lawsuit filed against Ramsay. Eventually, Gavin O’Connor, best known for 2011’s Warrior, stepped into the director role, and brought along Joel Edgerton and Noah Emmerich (who were both in Warrior) to star in the film. Emmerich will play Portman’s character Jane’s husband, Bill Hammond — who comes home one day wounded by bullets from an outlaw gang (headed by McGregor’s character) the Hammonds had run away from. According to the official synopsis, “with the vengeful crew hot on Ham’s trail, Jane has nowhere to turn but to her former fiancé Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton) for help in defending her family against certain destruction. Haunted by old memories, Jane’s past meets the present in a heart-stopping battle for survival.”
Jane Got a Gun will be released on January 29, 2016.
