It’s been a few days since the trailer for a superhero film was hoisted upon us, but fear not: today, that brief streak ends, as the first trailer to X-Men: Apocalypse is here.
The film is a follow-up to 2014’s ambitious and wildly successful Days of Future Past, which saw James McAvoy’s Charles Xavier traveling back in time to solve some very complicated plot while wearing bell bottoms. Apocalypse is rooted firmly in the present (or future), and gives us Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, and a whole batch of newcomers trying to fight off Apocalypse, who is the first (and strongest) mutant. It’s serious business because, according to Rose Byrne’s character, he might have been inspiration for much of what occurred in the Bible. And nothing mixes better than the biblical with superheroes!
Watch the trailer below. The film is set for a May 27 release, and if the trailer is any indication, it’s going to be on a much more epic scale than 2014’s relatively reasonable Days of Future Past.
