This December, only one thing can match the omnipresence of Star Wars: Drake’s “Hotline Bling,” which has managed to rule the music headlines since its summertime release. Much of that continued relevance is thanks to Drake’s video, which is just him in cool sweaters and Moncler coats, dancing like a Canadian in rooms he’d rather were designed by James Turrell. And that relevance continues today, thanks to the font of celebrity.
W Magazine arranged for a whole slew of celebrities to give very dramatic readings of the song, and, as you can imagine, it’s a mixed bag. If, two years removed from Breaking Bad‘s finale you’re still into Bryan Cranston-as-overdramatic-comedian, then you’ll be tickled by his performance. If you love Kristen Wiig (and who doesn’t?), then, well, she’s there. And also Seth Rogen, channeling all that range he learned while filming that movie written by Aaron Sorkin.
Who else would you liked to see reading “Hotline Bling”? Maybe Bernie Sanders, President Obama, Luke Skywalker, Kylo Ren, my own mother, possibly your own toddler nephew, but the one you like, not the one who slaps you in the face and laughs.
Anyway. We’ll have to settle for these celebrities. Watch below.
