Watch Tina Fey Be Quirky with An Assault Rifle in ‘Whiskey Tango Foxtrot’ Trailer

Where is the first place you’d expect Tina Fey to set her next movie? Miami? New York? South Africa? Paris? No? How about the Middle East — specifically Kabul? No? Well, sorry. Because that’s where she goes in her upcoming film, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

Fey’s Sisters follow-up is an adaptation of The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan, which is a 2011 memoir released by Kim Barker. From 2004 thru 2009, Barker served as the Chicago Tribune‘s South Asia Bureau Chief, which meant she spent some time covering the conflict in the Middle East. It sounds ripe for comedic mining, right?

Well, to be fair, the trailer is pretty funny, if you ignore the fact that every major person of color is played by a white actor (Alfred Molina, Christopher Abbott). Also, just ignore all of the sleazy politics that surrounded the conflict. Just pay attention to the fact that relatable old Tina Fey is in a military comedy with Margot Robbie, Billy Bob Thornton and Martin Freeman, and that it will appeal to both men AND women, thanks to its casting Fey in the middle of a war zone! (She even goes pee! Behind a bush!)
