Tilda Swinton and director Luca Guadagnino proved that they were a match made in a luxuriously adorned, sexual heaven in 2009 with I Am Love. They’ve reunited for the upcoming romance/drama/thriller A Bigger Splash, which also stars Ralph Fiennes, Dakota Johnson (50 Shades of Grey) and Matthias Schoenaerts (Far From the Madding Crowd), and it looks to be just as melodramatic.
Swinton is channeling her inner (and outer) Bowie as a rockstar on the mend after throat surgery, and she’s joined by her beau Schoenaerts, her ex-partner Fiennes, and his daughter Johnson. If the trailer is any indication of the plot of the movie, everybody (who isn’t related, presumably) is having sex and looking gorgeous while their sheer caftans are blown wildly by mountain winds. Long-dead relationships simmer and boil over and everyone smokes (or wants to smoke) cigarettes. It’s bound to be pretty and melodramatic and everything one could ever want from a Swinton/Guadagnino picture.
The film is a gender-swapped remake of the 1969 French classic La Piscine, which is basically about couples getting into fights and having sex with people they’re not meant to be having sex with. Oh, and also, someone drowns. So, sex and intrigue, then. Delightful.
A Bigger Splash is set for a May 13 release. Watch the trailer below.
